Call Forward - The future of the Phone  (POSTED: October, 2007)
At the 1964 World’s Fair in New York AT&T unveiled the Picturephone. Being the world’s largest telecommunications provider at the time, they proclaimed that in the future, people would communicate via round black-and-white video screens. In fact, AT&T was bold enough to predict that the Picturephone would reach 3 million homes and businesses by the mid-80’s and generate in excess of $5 billion (roughly $30 billion in today’s dollars) annually. Like most predictions about the future, this one failed to come to fruition. However, people love to speculate about what the future of telecommunications (and technology in general) holds.

Thailand - Where Politics is everything  (POSTED: October, 2007)
On a recent fleeting visit to Thailand I tried to jam enough detail into a snapshot of this country’s history and current conditions to offer an outlook for one of Asia’s tamer economic tigers. Compared with my previous visit almost 2 years previously, there was the same bustle – any country with 66 million people crammed into a little over 500,000 sq. kms. portrays bustle – but a lot more security. The combination creates an impression of momentum without direction as people hesitate to linger. The people seem in limbo, waiting for positive political change to reclaim their enthusiasm.
